Traditionally, Korean yeot is a kind of candy, so the word mulyeot can be translated as “sweet liquid candy.”

Mulyeot is used in many side dishes, especially those you stir-fry. Clear mulyeot is usually made from corn, and brown mulyeot, called ssalyeot is made from rice. They are pretty much interchangeable in Korean cooking, and Koreans often use the word mulyeot when they mean ssalyeot.
